The luna® Flange size guide
Why Breast Pump Flange Size Matters?
The flange is the breast pump part that comes in contact with your body when placed onto the
breast and nipple, forming a vacuum seal with the areola.
The Luna® breast pump comes with multiple flange sizes and offer smaller inserts to customize
the fit within the flange. This reduces the opening of the tunnel where the nipple
enters and allows for a more comfortable and effective pumping experience but also
helps with the prevention of breast inflammation also called Mastitis.
Flange sizes typically range from 13 to 27mm, depending on the brand. This measurement refers
to the beginning of the flange tunnel, not the flange opening. The Luna® Pump includes a
standard 24mm flange, a nipple ruler to help you find the right size and inserts ranging
from 17mm to 21mm to accommodate a variety of nipple sizes.
How to Determine Your Wearable Breast Pump Flange Size?
To determine the best flange size for you, you’ll need to measure your nipple first.
The Luna® breast pump comes with an handy nipple ruler with holes to make measuring a
breeze. Please note that your left and right nipples may have different sizes, so
please measure them both to get the exact size of them.
You can also use a regular ruler or tape measurer before ordering.
Please follow our 3 easy steps to find the best size for you.
Step one
Stimulate your nipple to make it perk up.
Step Two
If you are using a ruler or tape measurer: Measure the diameter of your
nipple in mm, from base to base. Do not include the diameter of your areola, only your
nipple.
If you are using our nipple ruler: Place your nipple into the holes one by
one to find out which one you can comfortably fit your nipples into, in a way that your
nipple can be out through the hole totally, also the ruler can touch the areola at the same
time.
Please note that your left and right nipples may have different sizes, so please measure them
both to get the exact size of them.
Step 3
Use the table below to determine the correct flange size. It’s recommended to choose
a flange size that is 1-3 mm larger than your nipple’s size. For example, if
your nipple measures between 15-17 mm, we recommend a 19 mm insert.
